The pandemic shuttered our collective wardrobe and showed us that nothing in life is certain, so you might as well wear what you want. Moreover, in the post-pandemic fashion world dopamine dressing has been having a moment.

What is Dopamine dressing?

Dopamine dressing is dressing to boost your mood. By wearing a certain color, texture or style, we can activate the release of dopamine. Dopamine dressing has already accounted for huge effect in our current fashion trends: the symbol of the global zeitgeist and a display of joy has been declared "Very Peri" - named the It color of 2022, or accessories such as feathers, sequins or opera gloves are present on runways and fashion shows, social media, meaning we are no longer dressing for occasion but to achieve a desired mood.

For me, dopamine dressing is about personal expression. As we know color trends had steady seasonal cadence dictated by the influence of designers - for example, pastels in spring, shimmery on holidays etc. I myself was the one who'd go researching Pinterest or Vogue for the new trending color of the year. There was a change in these cyclical color trends in favor of expressive pick of color driven by individuality.

Dopamine dressing is all about wearing something that makes you feel good. For some people, it

may be a certain color, print or texture, for me it is a certain style i can proudly wear. Anyway, for all of us, confidence comes when we feel our best.

Celebrating your Unique Style

Dopamine dressing allows people to embrace their unique styles. I remember being told so many times that I was overdressed or my outfit is too much. Thanks God for remote work today :) I finally dress to my taste without any remorse feelings. For me fashion has always been about expressing oneself, so you should absolutely wear what you love and love what you're wearing. The last few years were so chaotic so finding joy or mood boost in your clothing is only natural.

Research shows that trying new things can benefit mental health. And that is exactly you should say to anyone who is trying to shame you for impulse-buying or overspending, it is simply in favor of your mental health :)

Self-perception is powerful

You opinion is what matters most in dopamine dressing. Wearing colors that make you happy or calm, trying on styles you always wanted to try and trying to avoid outfits that are not "you" - is how you incorporate this tendancy.
